Matinee

Matinee v0.1.1

A big update to the server and web player: music gets a proper library and player, Matinee now speaks 32 languages, plugins arrive with the Arcade, and it’s easier and safer to watch away from home. The phone and TV apps are out in the stores and work with everything here.

  • Password guessing is slowed down. After a few wrong passwords for a name, or many from one address, Matinee makes each next try wait longer, up to 15 minutes. Sign-ins from your home network are never held up, so nobody outside can lock your household out.
  • Servers prove who they are. The apps now check that an address found away from home really belongs to your server before sending your sign-in to it. Update the server and the apps together.
  • Music, revamped: tabs for albums, artists and songs, album and artist pages, and a player that keeps going while you browse, with a queue.
  • 32 languages across the web player and the apps, with titles and descriptions in each profile’s language.
  • Plugins: add new kinds of media and players. The first one, the Arcade, plays your MAME games in the browser. Developers get a guide, the matinee-plugin tool and test helpers.
  • Home Assistant: see what’s playing, and pause, play or stop from Home Assistant, through the new integration and live events.
  • Casting: Chromecasts play straight from the server.
  • Sleep timer in the player.
  • Discover (optional): browse and request new titles through Overseerr.
  • Holiday rows on Home in the weeks before Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Admins can turn them off.
  • See more on rows that have more titles than they show.
  • Coming soon in the phone and TV apps, with a calendar.
  • Watching away from home: apps find your server again after its address changes, and tell you when away-from-home watching is ready. Matinee Connect, a prepaid subscription, looks up your server’s address; your video always goes straight from your server to you.
  • Remote access is offered when your public address only leads home, including through the Helm chart’s ingress.
  • TMDB key in Settings: admins can set or change the key without touching config.
  • Only home network addresses are announced on the local network.
  • Several apps can stay signed in and playing at once without getting stuck.
  • Every server has a lasting id, and admins can see each library’s title and file counts.
  • NAS app stores: entries for Unraid, Umbrel, ZimaOS and TrueNAS, and a NAS install guide.
  • A website and user guide at matinee.yeix.io, versioned with each release, with screenshots from a real library.
  • The Helm chart is listed with its license, links and icon on Artifact Hub.
  • Privacy policy and support pages for the apps.

Packages, the Docker image and the Helm chart update as usual; database changes apply on start. See Updating in the guide.
